Why some people need to get a job!

Some time ago, a Facebook friend had mentioned that many people on her Facebook would complain about their job in retail. Like if you know what you're getting into, don't go for it, do something that you would want to do. But at the same time, getting a non Customer-Service job, can be hard to get. Retail & Food Industry jobs are much easier to obtain than an office job. So when you're desperate to make money, you'll take any job that comes your way!

(I think everyone should work a customer service job, so they can understand how cruel people can be, and hopefully don't turn into the very people that were nasty to them.)

When I got a job in retail, I was unfortunate to not know what I was getting into. But I also had no choice but to go into retail. I was previously in college, in which they wouldn't let me go back for my bachelors until, I started paying them. I had to get a job, retail was the first to take me in. Ironically, my college ended up shutting down years later, and it was honestly a useless college in the first place.

(Quite frankly, I learned more stuff online, than in college!)

Now I'm just horribly in debt, and from 2012-2018, I was making minimum wage. (Thankfully, the minimum wage went up a dollar every year. So I started at 7.50 an hour, and ended on 12 an hour. In 2019, I got a job that pays 14 an hour. I had been on plenty of non-retail job interviews before, and because I lacked job experience in the fields I applied for, no one would give me a shot! That's when retail came in, and hired me without an interview, because it was a new store opening up. (More or less, they were relocating to a bigger store, but got rid of most of the old employees. The new location was only a 5 minute drive from the old one, and literally just on the opposite side of one of the roads.)

I chose to be a cashier, which was fine until I realized people were psychopaths that belong in mental institutions! I also realized that being around people so much, mentally drained me.  I needed a break every now and again, or I'd have a panic attack. My store is the type of store, where customers will scream their bloody head off because they didn't get a coupon, but another lady did. When the only way to get that coupon, is to donate a coat!

This happened to one of my supervisors a month ago. This nut job lady was cursing, and yelling at my supervisor because she wanted a coupon. You could only get the coupon for donating a coat. My supervisor gave the lady a coupon, even though she did not donate a coat. The lady apologized for yelling at her, and she "understands because she worked in retail once too". Which I highly doubt, because if you worked retail, you wouldn't have acted like a crazy person whose thumb just got cut off by a log gremlin! I felt so bad for the supervisor that day, because she got two other loony tunes right after that one! The supervisor was ready to cry, and she always goes out of her way to help people (Like she bought a 40 dollar coat for one of the girls at work who couldn't afford it).. and she got crapped on by dirt bags!

Working in this industry has lead me to not only dislike people, but despise the human race as a whole. Quite frankly, if the world were to get engulfed by the sun, I'd just say, well, at-least all the D-bags are dead! The really sad thing is, I used to be such a nice person (Which, I still am), but now I just have a negative view on humans. I think humans are simply, a waste of space (Yes, I know the irony, you don't have to tell me twice!). A year or so after working in retail, I came to the conclusion that I was a misanthrope! (Someone who hates people) The sad thing is, retail changes you, it shows you the madness of humans, and it changes you for the better, and or worse! (I would say for me, it is a mix of both.) I do feel my head was in the clouds before retail, and feel I had a more childish view on many things. I previously took things too lightly before retail, and I think it's allowed me to be more level headed when it comes to various things. Especially when I write stories, or do artwork. (I look at some of my stories, or graphic design projects from 8 years ago, and just think to myself, what the bloody hell, was I thinking!?) But now, I just see things in a whole new perspective. I find myself more negative about people, and things in general, than I used to be. With people being so rude to me, I find myself more selfish, in a certain sense of... "People are assholes, so I deserve this instead of them." Which has also lead my to favoring types of characters in games, or shows, who are sassy, and do what they want! (Example, Sombra from Overwatch. Who is looking out for herself first, and foremost.)

But that by no means, do I act like a jerk to anyone. I got called stupid recently (2015) by this one lady because I was helping her, after that, I walked away because I wasn't going to deal with someone who had no respect for me! Where-as I could have called her a nasty word back!
Many of the customers my store gets are just simply trash, but there are some good ones too. I like the ones that are just the type to buy something and go. I rarely get overly nice customers, but it is fun to get really nice customers! I've gotten so used to dealing with rude people, that I'm surprised when I meet nice people! (The sad truth) One time, I went to the pizza place. This old lady cut in line, and when she realized she had cut in line. She apologized, I was so blown away that she was so nice to me, I was literally speechless. (Especially since 70% of nasty customers are older people)
In fact, due to my experiences in retail, I am not shocked at all, when someone does something rude to me, someone I know, or just something I heard about online. At this point, I'm immune to evil things people do, I got so used to it, that it just doesn't phase me anymore.
Whats that, there was a shootout at a school? That's terrible, but, I'm not surprised! Say what now, a lady was being racist? Not surprised at all. Did you hear? Someone was beaten for being gay! Yeah, if you're surprised, well I'm not. Humans are the embodiment of fear, and hate, and they're just garbage overall. The only thing that surprises me now-days, are when people are actually nice to me!

I was happy when my job asked me to work on the sales floor, instead of cashier. I can easily say I enjoy being on the floor more. Even though people ask unintelligent questions, like where the bathroom is (You see that sign that says the restroom?), or when they ask where the fitting room is. Um, it's literally that GIANT DOOR, 5 feet behind you! (This happens way too much!)  Being on the floor, is more quiet and you get to do your own thing. As an introvert, I don't like dealing with thousands of people all the time. Meeting too many people, drains my energy and I become a lifeless doll on register. So if by chance you're reading this, and are an introvert who needs a retail job. I suggest getting a floor position, they're usually titled as things like "Home associate", or "Merchandiser", "Sales Floor/Associate" etc...

Let's be a chemist!

I think sometimes people are thrown into situations they cannot control, so they may not always want to do it, but may have no choice to get a job in retail. Finding a job these days that isn't retail can be difficult since, there aren't as many jobs out there anymore. (At-least for America, I'm unaware of the job states in other countries.)
It's annoying because, all of these companies want people with 20 million years of experience. People like me, or someone else with little experience, get passed on. But people who are pouring with experience, get jobs at the flip of a hat. I wouldn't be surprised if one day, the majority of people have little experience, and companies have a hard time hiring people for that reason. In fact, I've been on an interview from a company through networking (My friend is friends with the people who own a printing company, which is made up of Graphic Designers), and I still didn't get the job because, "They needed someone with 5 years Graphic Design experience". Well guess what, they were looking for half a year for that position, I at-least would have had some clue of what I was doing. (I regularly saw their ad online, that's why I knew how long it took. lol)
Honestly, I was not digging the way the place looked anyway. It looked like a flashback from the 70's! The furniture was old, and torn up. I was surprised Graphic Designers were the owners, since it was so boring, and dull looking. Not enough color!

When this was originally posted, I had been in retail for three years already, and miserable. It's not easy to get out because I didn't have enough experience, for like, anything. (And because I always say the wrong things by accident, I usually said something stupid on interviews)
[Ironically, I only got a job in 2018, because I did well on their typing assessment. But also because I worked retail, and the manager hires people who worked retail, so I believe I was hired based off of luck and skill, and not the actual interview. Conveniently, I ended up leaving that new job, and got another new one in 2019. Where It is a mix of office work, and some Graphic Design, so it only took me 6 years after retail, to get something in my field...]

The cool thing about some job websites, is that they tell you how many people already applied for the job.  It usually says something like, 50-100 people with over 10 years experience have mostly applied for this position.which really makes me lose hope in even being considered for that job!

On a side note, I've heard being a telemarketer is pretty bad. So I always avoid those types of wanted ads. Apparently if someone can't see your face, the customers get to be really nasty to you for no reason. The funny thing is, the people I work with are all nice to customers, but we get all the rude customers. Because of all the crap I've had to deal with, I always treat employees in stores that I'm a customer in, very nicely.

Concluding on the original subject, I do agree that people should get jobs they want, and not complain about it. But at the same time, we don't always get to choose what job we want. Sometimes we really need money, and take what comes our way. Sometimes you just have to put survival, over pleasure first. Not to mention, if you have a job you like. It doesn't mean you won't get managers that are nasty, or a toxic environment. It can still happen!

DO YOU GUYS DO LAYERWAYS?!

I have an interesting story to tell today! For those of you who do not know, I currently work in retail. It's a big store that has clothes, shoes, accessories, kids and a Home department.

The More You Know
My interpretation of a layaway box, it also had holes at the top, so you could hang clothes through.
The store does something called a "Layaway",  for those who don't know, this is a service where you put the item on Layaway, and it gets put on hold for 60 days. My store had a 5 dollar service fee, and a 10 dollar cancellation fee. So if you decided you didn't want the layaway anymore, you'd lose that 15 dollars! If you picked up the layaway, you never saw that 5 dollars ever again. In many cases, it was better to just buy the items right then, and there. (In 2018, they got rid of this system, and replaced it with a credit card program.)

How it works

The associate had to bring a big brown box from the back room, and had to insert the items into the box, many times people would put so much stuff on Layaway, that you'd need a bunch of these boxes.

They then had to write the customers information, expiration date, and layaway number, on the box, then tape it up. At the end of the day, the closing cashiers had to put the layawys in the layaway room. Many a time, cashiers didn't do this. So the layaways would start to pile up by registers, and cause lot's of problems because layaways would be "missing", due to the fact that they were still by the registers!
Layaways were always obnoxious, they were very time consuming, and held the line up. (Thank goodness they got rid of this system! But apparently it was only my store that was affected. )

I work in the Home department, and while I was working near the furniture sectopm. This illiterate lady comes up to me, and she goes. "Do you guys have LAYERWAYS here?".
And I said, yes, we have Layaways.
She goes, are you sure you have LAYERWAYS?!
I said, yes, I am positive!
Then she tells me, she needs ME to be her personal assistant! She directs me to the furniture section, and she keeps asking me for prices for things that clearly have the price like right in front of her!!! The price would be right there, and she'd ask me how much it was! I kept telling her what prices everything was.

She wanted all of this obnoxiously big stuff! Like lot's of it, three dressers, two stools, some glass/ceramic decorations, weird metal things, a this and a that. I had like four carts of junk, and it's just like, do you really need all of this stuff??!
Then she's trying to see if the stools work, I was thinking to myself, she's obese, and she's trying to get on these tiny stools. Meanwhile only like 30 percent of her is on this thing, like she cannot physically fit on this thing. She's like I want it, her (I assume) husband is telling her that it's uncomfortable and cheap. (Well duh, where the hell do you think you are, Macy's?! This is an off brand retailer, we get stuff that other stores don't want!) Her son, also commented saying the stool was uncomfortable as well.

So she's like, I want two of them

She explains to me about how much she's going to tell the manager how great I am, and I was thinking to myself, I'm trying to get a new job, I don't care about getting praised! I highly doubt she even told a manager anything, not that it really matters...
She goes on her way, to shop more. I put her obnoxious order to the front, near the registers. But not all of it would fit in the carts, so I go and get a Hand truck-flat bed thing.
I go to the back, and get another flatbed (Some call it a hand-truck). I bumped into two of my co-workers, and I'm recounting the story, about how this lady keeps calling them "LAYERWAYS"!

Later...

The woman wanted a discount for the three dressers she wanted to get, because they had scratches. I had to run around this big store trying to find a manager to ok it. After I found a manager and brought her over, she OKed the use of the discount and was probably the only other person who actually heard the lady pronounce it as "Layerways".
I put the items up, and I tell the supervisor about the layaway and the discount. She actually went out of her way, and wrapped the fragile stuff in a paper in advanced!

I wasn't there for this part, so It's going to be brief.

Maybe an hour later,  I went up to the registers for whatever it was and I had jut missed something, unfortunately.
Apparently the woman was causing problems, and being rude to the cashier! She wanted to pick and choose what was in her "LAYERWAYS", after the layaway would be created. At my store, when you make a layaway, it's a final deal. You can't take something out, or change it. What's done is done, and if you want to add something, you have to make a completely new layaway. But she didn't want to do that, so she was complaining and being a jerk. Ironically enough, she had to leave without making any LAYERWAYs, because her husband forgot his check book!

(Bring a credit card, it's easier and more convenient!)

They did however, buy 500 dollars of merchandise, but couldn't pay for the "layerways". I assume she bought all of the clothes that I saw her putting in her cart, after I had put away all of the things she wanted for her layaway.
They said they would be back for it, but they never came back. At the end of the day, me, the supervisor and two other people had to put all of the stuff back! There was lot's of it too, 2-4 carts and 3 big dresser furniture...

Throughout the day, I would tell people about the "Layerway" Lady and I would joke, don't you just love LAYERWAYS??? Saying it incorrectly on purpose!

The one manager said she needed a vacation after this. Girl, I don't blame you...

I literally spent 40 minutes trying to help this lady out, being her "personal assistant". Dealing with her saying "Layerways", and running around the store trying to find a manager because she wanted something discounted. Just for her to be nasty to the cashiers, not have the proper currency, and then waste all of our time going on a treasure hunt for her, just for her not to buy half of the stuff! We have lot's of stuff to do, and it's ridiculous when customers waste our time like this!

It was just so weird, but funny, this is probably the lightest customer story I have posted on this blog!

My January 2016 Anime PT 2

One Punch Man

One Punch Man, is about a man named Saitama. Saitama can defeat anyone with one punch, he is invincible! What is his secret?! Well, he does push ups, and sit ups, the usual!! He doesn't know why or how he is strong, but he's pretty bored since everyone he meets is defeated with one punch!

My Thoughts: I thought One Punch Man was a good parody anime that had a good amount of action and comedy, it was exactly what I was looking for, after watching a few anime about everyone dying *cough* Akame ga Kill and Danganronpa  *cough*.

Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate

The anime is about a club that is in danger of closing down. The students apart of this imaginative club, will do what it takes to keep it from closing down!

My Thoughts: So far I've only seen one episode, I like it so far. I like that they have a gay character in it!

Cuticle Tantei Inaba

Is about Inaba, a lone wolf type who can find out information by examining or tasting someone's hair.
With his allies, he is out to capture a goat crime boss!

My Thoughts: I didn't think Cuticle Tantei Inaba would be so bizarre, and silly! It's really funny though, it's kind of like Bobobo, because of it's randomness.

Shinrei Tantei Yakumo

Yakumo has the special ability to communicate with the dead, he uses these powers to help bring criminals to justice!

My Thoughts: Detective Yakumo is a very entertaining anime to watch, I wanted to watch episode after episode after the first!

Arslan Senki

Arslan Senki, is about a young prince named Arslan. Arslan is set out to go on the battlefield in a war, and during the battle, his army is defeated due to a trap, Arslan had to flee with his bodyguard.
The opposing army takes over Arslan's home capital, it is up to Arslan to recruit new allies to help retrieve his kingdom!

My thoughts: This anime has a Yona of the Dawn, and Suikoden vibe to it.
It's a really good anime and the more I watch it, the more it reminds me of the Suikoden games.

My January 2016 Anime PT 1

It's the start of the new year, and I've been immersing myself in many anime, and have been binge watching them one after another. I thought I would write about them a little bit.

I'd like to make an honorable mention to "The Devil is a Part Timer", as I watched it on the 30th and 31st of December! It was great!

Seven Deadly Sins

Seven Deadly Sins is about a group of legendary villains known as the "Seven Deadly Sins", a young princess named Elizabeth is on a search for the Sins. It turns out that the Seven Deadly Sins are the good guys, and the kingdom that went corrupt, wants them dead or alive.

My Thoughts: Seven Deadly Sins was a very fun anime, it was just like all of the great shows from back in the day. It has a great cast of characters with interesting abilities, and it has a good way of balancing the light hearted tones, and the darker parts of the anime.

K

K is about 7 people known as Kings, these people have magical abilities, and are able to form groups of people that they can bestow their abilities to. Yashiro Isana is a normal student, except when he finds out he is the number one suspect in a murder! The video evidence sure looks like him! Did he really kill someone, and not remember? K is about Yashiro finding out who the murderer is, finding out what kind of King he is and just making sense of it all.

My Thoughts: K was a really good anime, and it had such a "Durarara!!" vibe to it! It was a fun anime, that left me wanting more. It had lot's of bromance and shounen-ai undertones.

Rokka no Yuusha - Braves of Six Flowers
Rokka is about a terrible demon that is resurrected after a certain amount of centuries, a powerful goddess bestows her abilities upon 6 heroes, these heroes must gather together to fight the evil demon god.
But what happens when everyone comes to a meeting point, and there are 7 people there? Obviously one must be a fake that is working for the demons!
This action adventure fantasy quickly becomes a "Who done it" type of anime, and not the magical adventure anime it comes across as.

My Thoughts: I actually didn't read the description when I started watching this anime, so I thought that them finding out who the fraud was, would be like a 2 episode thing. I didn't realize it would take the rest of the show to find out who it was!
It's a really good show, once it gets to the mystery, it gets really good! I originally thought that maybe there wasn't a fake member, and that having 7 members would be a sign that they would finally defeat the terrible demon once and for all.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

15 students go to a new school, only to find out that they have become trapped inside of an unseal-able school. The only way to escape is by murdering another student, and getting away with the murder! When a student is murdered, a class trial will take place, and is held by a robotic (And psychotic, but funny) bear named Monokuma. The students must figure out who the killer is, if they guess right, they live and the murderer is executed. If they guess wrong, all of the students will be killed, and the murderer is set free!

My Thoughts: The show is very sick and twisted, but as the show goes on. It turns into more of a "What's really going on" type of show, as the remaining students try to figure out what is going on and how to escape this school. They find out some shocking facts, and there are a few plot twists.

Akame Ga Kill

Akame Ga Kill is a bit like Seven Deadly Sins, as the main characters are assassins and are seen as the bad guys. When in reality, they are the good guys trying to defeat a corrupt government.

My Thoughts: I actually could not finish this anime. It's one of those shows where the main characters drop like flies, and I just couldn't do it anymore. I hate getting attached to a character, just for them to die in two episodes. But it's a good show, and it has many likable characters as well.

Saint October Wiki

In my last Wiki post, I mentioned two wiki's that I am active and an admin on. The Suikoden and the Kya Dark Lineage

After I made my post about characters named Esmeralda, I was curious and I was searching up Esmeralda from the anime Saint October, and when I saw that someone created a wiki for the show,  I decided to step in and start editing it! I made graphics for the front page, and I gave the whole website a new theme! (Once I asked Wikia staff to allow me to become an admin to fix the place up!). I think it's coming along rather nicely!

Check the Saint October Wiki out! Click here. I think fixing up the Wiki would actually allow for more people to find out about the show and gain more interest!
