Overwatch Character Ideas: Powerful abilities, with a price...

If ya'll know me personally, you know that one of my favorite games of all time is Overwatch! I just love the colorful cast of characters, and the fun abilities to use in-game. Although I "Main" characters from each category,  I would probably be classified as a healer main. With Ana, Moira and Brigitte being in my top four most played characters of all time.

(Sombra was my most played character for years, until other characters came out.)

With that in mind, I have plenty of character ideas and would like to make posts on this blog about them from time to time. I thought of an interesting concept for Overwatch characters based off of my other favorite game series, Suikoden.

I think It could be interesting for Overwatch to go the Suikoden IV route and have a character/s with an ability/abilities that does great damage towards the enemy, but also hurts the user. This could lead to some interesting strategies around using the character/s. But in order for it to work, there has to be a give and take. The abilities in question have to be stronger than other attacks in the game, otherwise no one would play them and just play other characters that have high attack without being hurt by their abilities.

For those who aren't familiar with Suikoden IV, the main plot of the game has to do with magic known as the "Rune of Punishment", a magical orb that gives the user immense power, but causes pain and torture to those who bear it. In fact, most of it's spells injure the user in the process of using it.

To get an idea, here is a list of the Rune of Punishment spells.

Eternal Ordeal: -300HP to 1 enemy, -30HP to self.
Double Edged Sword: -150HP to all enemies, -50HP to self.
Voice of Death: Very fatal (1 enemy), 10% fatal (self).
Everlasting Mercy:-500HP (all enemies), +500HP (Allies only, self excluded).

I'm going to take these spells, and turn them into an Overwatch style set of abilities!

First things first

What should the role of this character be?

DPS - It would be good as a DPS character because they could lash out high damage output, and the possibility of hurting/killing themselves would allow for them to really think about how they would use these abilities in their favor.

Tank - The tank role would be good as well as the tank could take lots of damage, and use their abilities more often, where as a squishy could die in two seconds. On the contrary, it could be seen as too overpowered for a high health hero to have!

Healer - If it's for a healer, they could be a high damage/high healing output. Having a healer hurting themselves with their abilities would be counter-productive since a dead healer isn't going to help your team, instead they could have an ability that hurts enemies, and only heals allies. The character in question would have to figure out another way to heal themselves.

What could be an interesting idea, is to split these abilities into three or more characters who would as a bonus, also work really well while on the same team.

What is this painful ability that does amazing damage, while hurting the user? There's plenty of ideas we can come up with!

In this instance, we are going to use the idea of magical lamps, such as a genie in a lamp that grant power to those who discover it!

Here's what I've come up with!

Pachaiappan "Pachai"
 The Challenging Heart

DPS

"Think YOU can defeat me?"

A fisherman's daughter from a small town in Thailand. Her village was attacked by a mysterious group of omnics, her abilities alone weren't enough to stop them, and her village was destroyed. Feeling weak for not being able to save her village, she decides to become stronger, and heard about a powerful item that will help her train to become the hero that she wants to be! This item lies in the heart of the pyramids of Egypt!

She fights with small stick batons that can change in length.

Abilities

Weapon: Baton  - Pachai's main attacks are using a set of close ranged combo attacks with her Batons.

Miasma Orbs - Pachai's basic long range attacks are given to her by the power of the genie; this power allows her to shoot small orbs at enemies at a quick rate, she can also "charge" the ability to shoot bigger, more powerful orbs. Small orbs do 50 hp per damage, medium size do 80, while big ones do 100hp.

Cool-down Abilities

Fisherman's Rage - Pachai revs herself up and increases her damage output by 30%, her defense goes up by 10% for 5 seconds. (This ability does not work on her ultimate, just regular attacks, Batom/Miasma Orbs.)

Block/ Passive Ability - When attacking, Pachai can use a giant fish to block attacks. Once she has blocked 100 damage, a consumable fish will drop on the floor that she, or anyone of her friends can use to eat and restore 50 health.

Blood Dance - Ultimate Ability. With the genies power, Pachai flings giant swords made out of Blood Miasma at enemies. For each time she hits an enemy, she loses 20 Hp, but the enemies suffer 100 damage per hit, it has a small splash effect that will damage nearby enemies by 30hp.
She can potentially lose 100 hp, but do 500 damage + the splash damage on nearby enemies.

This ability does not have a timer, instead she is given 5 swords to fling, and once she's used them up, her Ultimate will start charging again.

This kit allows her to be somewhat of a "Fighting Game" character, her passive block ability adds to this, as well as gives her extra strategies to gain health so she doesn't die from her ultimate ability.

Blank
The Pained Heart
DPS

"Names are weird, just call me Blank..."

Experiment #97, also known as "Blank". Was once a street cat who was experimented on and tortured to the point of being on the brink of death!
One day, a  mysterious visitor broke all of the animals free, and everyone escaped. This was the opportunity of a lifetime! Blank had a second chance at life and escaped, but what was Blank supposed to do now?  Blank didn't have much to look forward to, with that being said, Blank decided to travel across the world, trying to find purpose in life!

A side effect of the experiments have caused Blank to become anthropomorphic, gaining human like features.

Abilities

Weapon:
Mirror
Mirror of Light- A magic mirror that shoots rays of light. It can be charged for larger, longer beam rays.

Cool-down Abilities

Sunshine - Magic mirror generates 4 balls of energy to heal for 50hp.
(Energy Balls are dropped and anyone could pick up)

Shining Light - Blind an enemy with your mirror, lasts for 3 seconds.

Burning Light - Being tortured your entire life teaches you a few tricks. Decrease damage done towards you by 30% for 5 seconds. For every attack you take, your attack damage is increased by 5% for 2 seconds, each attack adds an extra 2 seconds.

Ray of Terror -Ultimate Ability:  A quick ray of dark miasma appears, anyone hit by this light will lose 50% of their HP, there's a 10% chance the enemy can lose 90% of their hp. Blank loses 70% of their HP when successfully landing an attack on one or more enemies.

Passive Ability -
• Your cat-like reflexes allow you to run 50% faster after falling from a great height. (I may or may not have gotten this idea from my main in Dead By Daylight, Nea Karlsson)
• Stun abilities against you wear off 1 second earlier than when used on other characters.

Jimmi
The Heart of Gold

Tank

A lonely robot looking to make friends. It is often shunned, or scares people due to it's menacing face. While in a pub, a villager makes a joke saying Jimmi should go to Egypt to find a special item that will give Jimmi some "friends". Due to being a robot and not understanding sarcasm, Jimmi happily goes to Egypt in search for friendship! Note: Jimmi cannot talk.

Jimmi uses a long staff with screws at the end.

Abilities
Weapon
 :
Staff - Jimmi swings it's staff around it's body as it's normal attack, as well as Jab attacks, similar to a spear.

Miasma Screw - Thanks to the Genie's magic, Jimmi can shoot magical screws from his staff. Upon impact, the screws shatter into even more pieces, slightly damage enemies in the area.

Cool-down Abilities

Speed Up - By using the tires on it's feet,  Jimmi can increase it's speed by 50%, which will last for 6 seconds. An additional 30 damage is done if Jimmi rams into an enemy. (This part is considered the passive ability)

Screw Loose! - Jimmi throws down a giant screw that decreases nearby allies attack damage by 50%. It lasts for 6 seconds, and can be destroyed.

Miasma Trap - Jimmi places down a long rectangular Miasma trap. If an enemy walks onto it, it causes 100 damage per second, and hurts Jimmi for 50hp. He can place down 4 traps per ult.

Dameer
The Heart of Consciousness
Support+

"Well uh... let's see, this potion will heal your wounds, but this one... this one will put warts on your butt! Well, we don't want that one now do we... eh?"

A kooky scientist from Dubai, he is looking for ingredients to make a cure for his sick child. Upon hearing a rumor of a powerful ingredient said to be lurking in the Egyptian pyramids, he decides to go on an adventure to find out about this "cure all" item!

He fights using potions to heal his friends, and hurt enemies.

Abilities

Health Potion - Dameer throws potions at friends to heal them for 50 hp each. He has to refill his potions after he's thrown 10 of them.(Similar to the Clowns Poison Gas in Dead By Daylight)

Miasma Potion - Dameer throws these potions at foes, they do 15 damage per second, for 3 seconds, the more he throws at a time, the faster the damage accumulates. If he misses, a small dark pool of miasma will appear on the ground for 6 seconds, and do 10 damage per second if the enemy touches it. Unlike the healing potions, he would have to refill his potions quicker, after 5 bottles.

Cool-down Abilities

Splotch Potion - Dameer throws down this special potion, it's a small area effect ability. Dameer's potion let's out an oozing goo that damages enemies that come in contact with it for 50 hp per second, and heals allies 75 hp per second. The ability lasts 5 seconds. Maximum damage is 250 hp, and maximum health generated for everyone is 375 hp.
It also decreases enemy movement speed by 5%. This is the only ability that Dameer can use to heal himself.

This ability could combo with his poison potion, since it would slow down enemies so he could attack them.

Resistance Potion - Small area effect. Allies splashed with this potion will be invulnerable for 3 seconds. (Most characters have an escape ability, this would be Dameer's, except it prevents him from being hurt)

Scientists Knowledge - Passive Ability - Status effect abilities have a 30% chance of not working. (This includes, poison, burn, sleept, stun. etc.

Ephemeral Mist - Ultimate ability. Dameer was given this special power from the genie. A large area is covered in a dark mist, it heals allies (except Dameer), and hurts enemies. Dameer throws a special potion that instantly engulfs the selected area into a dark black/purple mist, the mist will have white and yellow lights pulsate through it to heal allies. The mist will shoot dark miasma orbs at any enemy nearby. Enemy movement speed decreased by 10%, while inside the mist. (The orbs will not shoot if they're inside of it)

Healing 200 per second & 100 damage to enemies per second inside the mist, and 50 damage from flying miasma orbs that shoot out from the mist.
The ability lasts for 5 seconds, so it has the possibility to do 800 healing, and 500 damage.

Things that only apply to me...

There are plenty of things that I've noticed I seem to be the only person in the world, that likes said thing. Everyone else seems to hate them/ not agree with it.. So here's a list of things, that "apparently", only apply to me..

Animals

• I love dogs, and I don't like cats due to traumatic experiences in my childhood. Like I am literally afraid of cats. My friend has a cat, and one time he moved his paw, and I screamed, because I'm so afraid of them attacking me for no reason. Yet, everyone else in the world loves cats, and if you don't like cats, you're yelled at, and ostracized! (I've been called an idiot, as well as "There being something wrong with me", just for expressing my dislike of cats online.) See Reasons Why I'm a Dog Person

Anime

• I prefer more unknown anime, over popular ones, as I find they tend to be more interesting than popular shows with 55 thousand episodes. (Bleach, Naruto, Dragonball, One Piece .. etc..)
• I did no love Sword Art Online. See my Review as to why.
• I love unknown anime like Saint October, Shangri-La and Trickster. Where as everyone hates them.

Food

That everyone else seems to hates but me!

Tomatoes
Candy Corn.
Cranberry Sauce

Food - I don't like

Alcohol -

Kids

 I don't like kids.
Internet

• I prefer using the search engine Bing, over Google, but everyone else hates Bing!

See Why I like Bing.

Men

• I'm like the only person that thinks George Eads is attractive. (Although, as I've gotten older, I find less actors attractive, and more people IRL attractive.
• Everyone wants to date a young guy in his early 20's, I'd prefer to date someone older in his late 30's!

Other

• Unlike most people, I am good with names, but not faces. Apparently humans are supposed to be good with faces, and not names. This makes me question why it is, I'm so bad with faces? Names are easy, but the only way for me to remember someone's face is if I'm around them for long periods of time. If I'm working in a store, and a customer asks me a question where I have to leave them, and come back. I will come back, not knowing who it was that wanted help! The funniest part is when, I need a co-workers help, I'll tell them they were wearing pink, and blue, but they were wearing black, and white dots! I can't remember people's faces until I'm around them! But I have yet to meet anyone that is good with names like me, and It's also ironic considering I'm an artist!

• I like having work on Sundays because, when I was younger and used to watch cable television, there would never be any TV shows on Sundays. Back then Sundays always dragged on to me, they were just always boring! As an adult, even though I just watch shows online now. Sundays are still very boring, and a drag on. Since I work retail, I do work Sundays, but it's weird when I'm off on one, because it's just such a dull day for me. Everyone else loves being off on Sundays..... Bleh!

• Despite being a male in his twenties, I get hot flashes! However, I only get them on my face, and usually only around spring/summer... I have no idea why it happens... I should probably find out why... (Years later I realized this was a sign that I was eating too much sugar)

Video Games

• I'm one of the few people on the planet that absolutely hates Final Fantasy VII!
• I seem to be the only person to like the characters Quina, and Hope, in the Final Fantasy games.
• Poshul, a talking pink dog in the game Chrono Cross, is one of my favorite characters of all time! I even have a collectible of her. But everyone hates her!
• I'm a Sombra main in Overwatch, and everyone hates her because she takes actual skill to use... (And I OOP)
• I enjoy plenty of Video Games that no one likes, or have heard of.. such as the Suikoden Games, Kya Dark Lineage, Beyond Good & Evil, Malice, Sould Nomad & The World Eaters, Sly Cooper... etc.

Weather

• 90% of my friends love winter, and hate Summer. I absolutely love summer! I hate cold weather, 60 degrees is too cold to me.. I can't take it! But what drives me nuts is, everyone around me likes winter! Meeting someone that likes summer, is an oddity for me. I want more summer lovers in my life, is that a hard thing to ask?
See Why I love Summer!

Blind Heroes

After watching Daredevil on Netflix, I thought of how many blind heroes there are, that I know of? So far, that's three, but here is a list of them!

Morgan
Suikoden I

A blind gladiator who appears in the first Suikoden game.
He is first met at a temple, where he meditates. He notes to the player, that he was born blind. This is however false, it's not until the prequel, Suikoden V, that we find out that he was an enslaved gladiator in the country of Falena. He was so powerful, that he won every match. In order to go against the odds, his eyes were forcefully removed. Despite this, he would still win with the use of honing his inner being, and was shipped off to another country. Morgan was able to escape due to a storm, and washed up in the country of Toran (Where Suikoden I takes place).

Toph Beifong
Avatar: The Last Airbender

Toph is an Earthbending Master. (Which is the ability to manipulate the earth, such as making giant earth pillows pop out of the ground.. etc)
Toph was born blind, and the daughter of high status parents. She was able to learn "Earth Bending", by animals known as Badger Moles. She's able to "see" through the vibrations in the earth.
Toph is a great fighter, and earth bender. She also learns how to "Metal Bend", and eventually teaches others how to do so as well.

Matt Murdoch
Daredevil

Matt Murdoch, or "Daredevil", is a lawyer by day and a vigilante by night.
When he was 9, he saved a man from getting hit by a vehicle, unfortunately, the vehicle had dangerous chemicals on board, causing Matt to lose his eyesight.
Eventually, he was trained to fight by a blind man named Stick.
After college, Matt became a lawyer. But at night, he becomes the vigilante hero "Daredevil".
Due to losing his eyesight, he has heightened senses, and uses them to his advantage.  He uses an array of martial arts, and a stave to fight his enemies.

This makes me wonder if there are any deaf heroes in fiction?

Question of the day, how does a blind person and a deaf person communicate?

Feel free to comment below any characters that you know of!

My January 2016 Anime PT 2

One Punch Man

One Punch Man, is about a man named Saitama. Saitama can defeat anyone with one punch, he is invincible! What is his secret?! Well, he does push ups, and sit ups, the usual!! He doesn't know why or how he is strong, but he's pretty bored since everyone he meets is defeated with one punch!

My Thoughts: I thought One Punch Man was a good parody anime that had a good amount of action and comedy, it was exactly what I was looking for, after watching a few anime about everyone dying *cough* Akame ga Kill and Danganronpa  *cough*.

Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate

The anime is about a club that is in danger of closing down. The students apart of this imaginative club, will do what it takes to keep it from closing down!

My Thoughts: So far I've only seen one episode, I like it so far. I like that they have a gay character in it!

Cuticle Tantei Inaba

Is about Inaba, a lone wolf type who can find out information by examining or tasting someone's hair.
With his allies, he is out to capture a goat crime boss!

My Thoughts: I didn't think Cuticle Tantei Inaba would be so bizarre, and silly! It's really funny though, it's kind of like Bobobo, because of it's randomness.

Shinrei Tantei Yakumo

Yakumo has the special ability to communicate with the dead, he uses these powers to help bring criminals to justice!

My Thoughts: Detective Yakumo is a very entertaining anime to watch, I wanted to watch episode after episode after the first!

Arslan Senki

Arslan Senki, is about a young prince named Arslan. Arslan is set out to go on the battlefield in a war, and during the battle, his army is defeated due to a trap, Arslan had to flee with his bodyguard.
The opposing army takes over Arslan's home capital, it is up to Arslan to recruit new allies to help retrieve his kingdom!

My thoughts: This anime has a Yona of the Dawn, and Suikoden vibe to it.
It's a really good anime and the more I watch it, the more it reminds me of the Suikoden games.

Esmeralda, Esmeralda and.. well... Esmeralda!

In honor of my character Esmeralda, which you can see stories I've made. Here and the tags on this blog, Here.

This is a very simple blog post in appreciation to characters named Esmeralda! (And any similar variation. Sorry Ogsmelda, you're not included.)

Let's start off with the most popular Esmeralda, from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Hunchback of Notre Dame

Name: Esmeralda
Series: Hunchback of Notre Dame (Movie), Kingdom Hearts (Game).
Title: Gypsy
The deuteragonist of Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Shards of Magic

Name: Esmerelda
Series: Shards of Magic (Video Game)
Title: Healer
Esmerelda is a dragon with an affinity for wind; she is good friends with the Lancer character and helps allies by healing them.

Dungeon Link

Name: Esmeralda
Series: Dungeon Link (Video Game)
Title: Knife Juggler
Weapon: Knives?

A knife juggler, who can copy another characters special attack as her own.

(Shards Of Magic & Dungeon Link are for IOS & Android.)

Suikoden

There is Esmeralda from Suikoden. Who was the inspiration to my own character with the same name!

Name: Esmeralda
Series: Suikoden (Video Game)
Title: Narcissist
Esmeralda, a narcissistic woman living in an inn, in the town of Antei. She joins the hero once you retrieve an opal for her.
She is the most useless character in the game, she does have a pretty dress though...
When creating a Suikoden story with my friends, my friend gave the idea of a crazy version of Esmeralda. That was when my own Esmeralda was born, I liked her so much, that I started to brand her off as a separate person.

Saint October

Name: Esmeralda
Series: Saint October (Anime)
Title: "Evil" Villain.. Chi Chi Chi!!
Weapon: Whip

Then, there is Esmeralda from the anime "Saint October". She is probably my favorite fictional Esmeralda, that is not my own character, she's just so strange and funny! A villain that was hired to fight the good guys; she's a total wacko who loves to say "Chi Chi Chi" instead of actually laughing. She also has a thing for the one priest guy, which can be really funny at times.

I know that the name field was pointless, but to be fair, the dragon Esmerelda's name is spelled differently!

Interesting Facts
1. Most characters with the name Esmeralda are associated with the colors Pink, Purple or Green.
2. Upon looking for other characters named Esmeralda, many anime characters named Esmeralda all have Blonde hair. Check this out & and this.
3. Esmeralda's seem to be very prim, proper, royalty or narcissistic, and weird.
4. Some tend to be performers, like Dancers or Circus Performers.

Now kids, remember this, because I'll be sending out a 1000 question quiz, about characters named Esmeralda, so don't forget! Make sure to study! 😜

Different Ways to spell Esmeralda!

1. Esmeralda
2. Esmerelda
3. Esmyrelda
4. Esmirelda

Norma and Norma

This is a very short and quick blog post about the similarities between Norma from Suikoden V and Norma Beatty from Tales of Legendia.

Norma Beatty from Tales of Legendia

Norma from Suikoden V.

Her black shoes don't appear in my current black background on the site, so it looks like she has not feet. lol

These two girls have a few similarities, the most interesting part is that the games they are in, came out six months apart from each other! This also means there was no intention, to duplicate one of the characters.
I noticed they had a few similarities due to someone bringing it to my attention.

1. Both girls are conveniently named Norma.
2. They both have brown hair up to their neck, in a bowl shape fashion.
3. They are both eccentric, happy go lucky characters.
4. They're both good magicians.
5. They both have wand type weapons, Norma Beatty having a straw wand that shoots bubbles, and Norma having a Bo-staff.
6. They're both wearing a skirt (Although this could be a rather generic one.)
7. They both conveniently have a hair-piece, on the left of their head.

Why I'm not a fan of strict policies..

I'm sure many people on the Internet are loosey goosies (Yes, I'm pretty sure "Goosies" is not a word. Actually, that kind of works with this topic...). But there are definitely plenty of stubborn strict people on the Internet, who just need to lighten up!

Let me tell you, when I was 16, I frequented Wikipedia and half of the stuff I edited either got fixed or deleted. Now, I'll understand for a good portion that I was an idiot who didn't know how to spell, use proper grammar and punctuation, (In fact, I still don't always do proper punctuation, but I try!). But there were so many things that I put in, that were useful facts, and info that were just deleted! For the most part, I am talking about the page for the game, Kya Dark Lineage. The Wikipedia page that I started! As you can see Here.
Wikipedia goes by a very strict set of rules, and I'll understand to a degree that a clean up must be done. But I feel like some people are just sticklers, and they want the least amount of info for a Wikipedia page possible. It has to be so by the book, that in the end, lot's of useful information is deleted at the drop of a hat This will actually discourage people to not even bother with it, such as myself, who doesn't bother with editing on Wikipedia anymore.
I had recently edited the Kya page back in 2012, and I found out that my edit was removed completely a few years later! If you ask me, finding out that the creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender, were going to name the female lead "Kya", but chose not to due to a video game character with the same name. I'd say that's a very interesting bit of info! A hidden gem of a game that no one knows about, actually influenced a character's name from a popular show! That's just great! Yet, it was removed a while back.
As I look back to the Wikipedia page for Kya, I noticed in the history, that lot's of information was deleted and then someone goes around and puts a tag saying it needs to be re-written! Well yeah, if someone else didn't delete everything!
It's just very aggravating in my opinion, that's why I don't even bother anymore, because anything I put down gets deleted in the long run. Meanwhile, I'm like the only person that cares enough to write about Kya in the first place!

This is also why I enjoy Wiki's better, because they tend to be less strict and more free. However, sticklers can still abound and it really depends on who the administrators of the wiki are.
Wiki's, like the Kya Dark Lineage wiki, which I created. I'm very carefree and I'll allow many things, and since I'm the admin, I can do whatever I want (As long as it doesn't go against Wikia's rules, of course.). I've even added a few non Kya related articles in there, but usually pertaining to a few similar games. This is to create more activity, and views, and interest in similar things.
I also edit on the Suikoden Wiki, which also has breezy admins and it's fun to be on (I've also been made an admin on there as well).

I was disappointed to find out that my edit on the Tales of Legendia wiki was deleted, as there is a character named Norma, who is very similar to the Norma in Suikoden. Apparently, It's not good enough because the characters aren't made by the same company. which in my opinion is silly, but I find these character similarities interesting, and someone else was the one that pointed it out to me!

Another instance as to strict policies, are particular people at my job. There are certain higher ups who will get you in trouble just because you took two extra minutes on your break, or because you talked to someone for two minutes. Yes because if I talk to my friend for 2 minutes, the world will explode, all is lost, and no work will ever be able to get done! Because that two minutes, out of the 8 hours I am there was the most time consuming, and wasteful two minutes of the entire existence of the planet! Not to mention, if I don't talk to anyone interesting and I have to deal with one more douche bag customer, I'll punch them (Customer) in the face and walk out! Talking to friends allows me not to cut a bitch! It would also put me in a better mood!

(Please realize, I am exaggerating with the violence though...)

The irony, is this manager had to talk to my friend for 5-10 minutes about how you shouldn't be talking to people at work and how you should be working...... what.... (Oh, the irony!)

In 2018, I worked for a company that would have your head if you were a minute late coming in, or even if you were on break. One minute is not going to ruin the business, I promise. Which is funny because, the manual even said you were allowed a 4 minute grace period. Which they didn't care about their own rules.
I told my friend Stephanie about this, she said they needed to calm their tits, it's only a minute! I said, that's something  I would say! She said "See, this is why we're friends!". lol

What I'm trying to say is, I dislike strict policies and sometimes everyone should take things less seriously and take them in between silly and serious. Some rules are good and some are good to be mended. You can't take things too seriously, or you'll have a dull life.

Boomerangs!

I love Boomerangs! They are my favorite weapon of all time in games, and shows. I've been in love with them ever since Millie from the second Suikoden game! I've always thought they were cool. You throw the boomerang, so you never get close to your enemies, and then it comes back so you never have to refill your weapon either. Of course there are many flaws, like it would never work in real life because it would hit the target and fall. But, I do theorize that if the boomerang is either going faster, or is stronger than the object to hit, it can actually knock the target down. As an example, if you threw a boomerang, at a "wanky" little tree branch (about 2 inches thick), the boomerang would be going fast enough, and strong enough to fling into the tree branch, probably bend the branch, or even break it, and continue to fly. now, if you did this to a tree, it would just "boop", the tree and fall.

What I really like is, Sango from the anime Inuyasha, does something similar. She uses a giant boomerang, that's probably 6 feet tall, and every time she uses it on a giant monster, it's used in a way that makes sense. She doesn't hit the enemy directly, but to the side of the enemy, where it would still have enough speed and power to come back. (Like in the anime, one time, she throws it at a giant serpent, or snake monster [I don't remember what it was], and it only attacked the very outside of the creature, somewhat bruising, it, if you will. Because it's so big, and heavy, I believe she easily knocks down human sized foes rather quickly.)
Millie

In the show The Arrow, Captain Boomerang appears, and he actually has many boomerangs under his coat, he uses them like sharp knives, and some of them come back in certain circumstances. I think this was the most realistic way to bring Boomerangs as an actual weapon, in the modern day.

I like that people are starting to give them a realistic aspect to them. I've always been fascinated by them and I wish they would be used more in video games, and other media. One of my favorite anime, Shangri La, has Kuniko Hojo. She uses a giant metal boomerang, and it's strong enough to cut through a tank turret! Kuniko uses her metal boots to kick the boomerang, in order to stop it. (If she grabbed it with her hand, it would probably tear her arm off. The metal on her boots, would probably soak the damage, so it would stop the boomerang) Shangri-La is one of my favorite anime, but not only because Kuniko has an awesome weapon, but also because it's an awesome anime!

Although in real life Boomerangs are not used as weapons, but actually for sport, or an item to scare away birds and other animals, usually in the means of hunting. The aborigines actually used a weapon called the "Throwing Stick", which was used to attack prey, and this weapon inspired the boomerang. They've never had a throwing stick in a game before, from my knowledge. Which would be very interesting!
I think it's funny, because my three favorite game series, Suikoden ,Chrono Cross and Kya Dark Lineage. All of my favorite characters, or one of my favorite characters have a boomerang. I always thought it was funny that my three favorite series always had a character with a boomerang.
Faylen

As mentioned earlier, my favorite Suikoden II character is Millie, and uses boomerang as her weapon. She was the one that introduced me to the wild world of boomerangs as a weapon! Check out one of my earlier posts, which is also one of the most viewed on the blog, that I made about her! "Who is Suikoden's Millie?"
Then you also have Faylen, another character from the Suikoden franchise, that appears in Suikoden V. Who has a big metal boomerang. The interesting thing about Faylen, is that she has a metal glove on her right hand, which adds the realistic element, of her having to catch it, without cutting her whole hand/arm off. (Similar to Kuniko's boots). There is also the addition of Sialeeds, and Sharmista, in Suikoden V Whom have Chakrams, a circular weapon that is thrown. In many games such as Suikoden, or Tales of the Abyss, characters that have chakrams, have the capability of having the chakram come back to them, like a boomerang. Interestingly enough, Suikoden V allows characters to use skills to buff themselves in battle. Sharmista, and Sialeeds have a "Long Throw" ability (Which is the rare chance to attack all enemies because of it's boomerang like qualities, similar attacks can be seen in Chrono Cross, and Final Fantasy 13), Faylen does not have this. (I theorize it's because she has a Treasure Hunt ability, that cannot be removed, since she's a bandit character.)
In it's spiritual successor, Suikoden Tierkreis, various characters can use a boomerang as their weapon, including the main character. Unlike the original Suikoden games, where the characters keep their weapon and upgrade it by going to a blacksmith. Tierkreis has the characters swap out weapons for stronger upgrades, the Chakram, is one of the upgrades. The character Taj, starts with one.
A few of the Boomerang upgrades look similarly to previous installment's weapons, there is one that looks like Millie's, Faylen's, and Sialeeds/Sharmista. The rest are all original, and one even looks like a Ninja Shuriken, which has been used as a normal long range weapon by Sasuke, in Suikoden II. (For images of the Boomerangs in Suikoden Tierkreis, check out the Weapon gallery on the wiki!)

Drawing by me.

Van from Chrono Cross
In Chrono Cross, there is Van, a painter who wields a boomerang. His first special ability, has him throwing all of his boomerangs at the enemies. (Van is one of my two favorite characters in CC, and not only does he have a Boomerang, but he is also a painter! I thought it was funny because I also like art.).
There is another character, Mel who I like too and uses a boomerang.

Funny thing I noticed as I'm editing this post, Millie, Faylen, and Van, are all the same age, they are 14.
Suikoden V takes place much earlier (9 years earlier) than the second game, so technically, Faylen & Millie are different ages. But in their games, they are both 14. at that moment in time. When I first played Suikoden II, and Chrono Cross, I was about 10 years old. I also related to them due to being a similar age to them at the time.

Kya Dark Lineage, the main character Kya, uses a boomerang like weapon to defeat monsters. She uses the Boomy, which she conveniently also uses as a hair clip when not in use (In the picture, it's the yellow item she has in her hand.). She can also use it as a close range weapon, similar to a knife. However, she can only use it against small creatures, larger enemies she cannot hurt them with it (She can however hit them with it, and if far away, if there is another enemy nearby, they'll fight each other, it can be rather funny!).

So, now you know why I love boomerangs so much! Plus some extra info! I even have a book I purchased called how to make a boomerang, apparently there's a way to make a boomerang out of a rectangle type stick!! What!!! I bought it like three years ago, I haven't made any boomerangs yet. (I'm very lazy.....)

Suikoden Characters: Rita

As of late I've been replaying Suikoden  IV, and I would like to post the advantages of having the character Rita in your party!

Rita is a spunky young girl, who appears in Suikoden IV, and Suikoden Tactics. She's a side character that you can recruit early on in both games. She'll join the party if you play, and beat her in one of her games. Suikoden IV involves the player playing against her in "Rita-Pon", a game like Mahjong, except with characters from the game as symbols. In Tactics, you have to get your characters element over more spaces than her, in a splatoon like fashion. Since Suikoden Tactics came out in 2005, Rita thought of Splatoon first ya'll!

In the series, she takes place of the Trickster category. Tricksters are normally young, energetic girls, who use hammers, or long range weapons (Knives and crossbows). Usually, they have a knack for engineering/building things. Rita isn't necessarily a builder type, but her creativity when it comes to making new games, can be similar to "creating".  Her outfit is very reminiscent to the other trickster characters as well. Other tricksters have striped clothing themes, and a focal point item, for Rita, it's the orbs on her outfit. (Earlier, and Later installments have Bells, and Buttons. Unironically, another trickster's name is Belle, and she has bells.)

Rita is an early character, who has great magic stats, and a powerful weapon for a magician type of character.

Rita is actually a mix between a mage character, and a fighter character, but she's not strong enough to be a Jack of all trades type that has an equal amount of stats all around. Basically, she is weaker than the hero character when it comes to HP, and Strength, but she has better magic power than him, and she's stronger physically than other characters who are complete mage characters. Which makes her a bit of the best of both worlds. Since she's one of the first recruit-able characters in both games, it's good to have her in the party with her high magic stats. She'll gain magic faster than the other early characters, although eventually she does slow down around level 40 and everyone else catches up with her.
The really interesting thing about Rita is, although she is more of a mage character, her weapon is actually much stronger than other mage type characters, and can deal much more damage than most mage types.
Basically, Rita has good magic power, and her weapon is strong, but her "physical" strength and hp are not as good. She's basically an equal opportunity character, but just a little bit under the line of jack of all trades type.

When Rita appears in Suikoden Tactics, they change her into a "Fighter" type character, which means she cannot use regular magic (Due to it being a tactics game, the mechanics are a bit different than a normal Suikoden games). This also happens to the character Wendel, which is very bizarre considering Rita and Wendel are great magic users in Suikoden IV. They literally have better magic stats in Tactics, than the rest of the magician characters! But they cannot use magic, I think the reason they did this, was because of their weapons not being "Mage type" weapons, and being more powerful, so they toned the characters down. (Wendel uses claws as her weapon) Maybe they didn't want the characters to be OP, even though there is one character you can get, that has a fighter type weapon, that can use magic. (Obviously, it's a different story, but still.)

Overall, Rita is a quirky, and unique character, who walks like Tommy Pickles from the Rugrats, and is a nice mix between a mage, and fighter character. Who may or may not be, and ancestor to the trickster Meg, from Suikoden I & II. (Considering Suikoden IV takes place 150 years before the first game, and they hint this with other characters in Suikoden V.)

Elemental Maidens of Destiny!

I've been slacking on blog posts lately, I have some ideas, but I've been extremely lazy lately!!!
I have however been playing lot's of Suikoden IV! Which also brings me to the idea I came up with a few years ago!
For those who are not familiar, Suikoden is an RPG series where you recruit 108 characters (Known as the stars of destiny) to help fight an opposing force. In the first Suikoden, there are exactly five female characters who all have throwing knives as their weapon. In Suikoden, you can give characters elemental magic that varies from Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, and Lightning. These are known as runes, which are magical orbs that imbue it's magical powers onto the person. (Which can be removed, or added, by a person known as a "Rune Master")
I went and gave each character a different element, and by doing this, I realized that they became "magical girls". Magical girls, for those who don't know, is a trope seen in anime like Sailor Moon, or Saint October. Where it's a group of 5 characters, who all have different colored outfits, and usually different elemental abilities (That also match their attire). Below are the characters, and what element I gave to each character. I usually give characters elements based off of the colors they wear!

I created my own version of "runes".
Cleo

I always give fire magic to Cleo, (Which is given to her by another character in the game). Although many fans like to give her water magic.

Meg

I mix around magic with Meg, I either give her Water, or Lightning. But once you recruit all 5 of the characters, I stick with lightning on her. Meg is the least  magical character of the girls, and giving her water, and/or lightning, is better for her than Wind, or Earth because of their spell types. (Fire would also work for her too) Early level spells for Wind and Earth include defense, and sleep spells. Using healing (water), or attack spells (lightning/fire) are more useful for a character who isn't the best (or worst) with magic, such as Meg.

Meg re-appears in the second game, where they give characters affinities to certain magic. Coincidentally, she's only good with Lightning, and Wind magic in the second.

Eileen
Eileen joins the group with Earth magic.

Sarah

Sarah, I give Water because of her blue outfit. (You also meet her, while she's washing clothes, so it's kind of fitting actually)

Tengaar

Tengaar, being the last recruit, I gave her wind. Although, in the second Suikoden, she's good with Earth, Wind and Fire (Which perfectly fits her outfit colors!).

(Meg, and Tengaar re-appear in the second game as playable characters. Cleo, Eileen, and Sarah do not, but they all make cameo appearances in the hero of the first games home-town. )
Together they make the five ladies the Elemental Maidens of Destiny!

I almost forgot!

Last but not least is, Glo-Rya!
The secret elemental maiden of destiny! She's so secret, she's not even in the game! In fact, she's my sassy co-worker! (I just wanted to put this in here for fun)

The one, the only, Glo-Rya!

This is just a fun little post I made.
Unfortunately, the other Suikodens don't have enough knife throwers in their games to do this! I'm still experimenting with this idea, and may come up with different ideas for the Suikoden games in the future. I may even incorporate a similar scenario in my own stories.

I made Darkness, and Holy images too!
