Tips

Here is a tutorial by Deviant Art user, Nasyu.

Nasyu, is a great artist, who puts a flair of surrealism in their artwork. They mostly do ships, such as Dean and Castiel, from Supernatural! One of my favorite pairings!

My Tips

Two ways to color...

This is the way I colored my drawing I did of Van from Chrono Cross.

I would color the area with one color, then I would change the brush color to black and put it on a 10% opacity with a new layer called Shadow. Then I would color over areas where shadow would be, then I would brush over the same areas for a darker look. At the end I would switch the brush to white with a 10% opacity, and go to another layer titled light and do the same with white as I did with black for a shine look.

My second way is how I am coloring Lu from Suikoden V.

The first thing I do is color the area with one color on 50% opacity, then I will color over it with the same brush color and opacity, but in certain areas to create a color difference for shadow and light.
Then I take a darker shade of that color and color the areas where a shadow would be, then I make a new layer for light and another for dark. I take white and put a 10% opacity and lighten areas for a shine, for dark I use black or the darker version of the color and use 10% opacity and shade in areas. Then I take a middle toned color of the color of choice and color the entire area with that color on 50% opacity, then I shade it with the darker version of the color, and for the finishing touches I choose the opposite color of the color of choice and put it on 10% opacity and put it in the shaded areas.

Opposite colors are as followed

Yellow = Purple
Red = Green
Blue = Orange
