Why there is no straight pride

Since June is gay pride month, I am going to post two LGBTQIA posts this month! One today and the other one at the end of the month.
If you don't know what LGBTQIA means, just check out my earlier post. LGBTQIA terminology

This weeks post is about gay pride, and why there is no straight pride.

So, there are a few people I know on facebook that want straight pride, although one of them said they didn't really care. Oddly enough, another one that posted it, I thought he was bi, I guess things are different now.
I also used to know someone on formspring, who was always complaining about why there was no straight pride. At first I didn't understand why there wasn't straight pride either, but it wasn't until I found out why.
She was also pretty ignorant, she only liked gay people if they weren't a stereotype, and she didn't like gay men if they had a lisp, and only liked "Manly" ones. She was so ignorant, she didn't realize how ignorant she was! She also didn't like it when gay people "flaunt their sexuality", which doesn't really happen. She didn't like how gay people may hold hands in public, or kiss... Which by the way, straight people do all the time, and don't get hate on! Double standards much!? She basically didn't like feminine men or masculine women, she was only used to men being masculine, and women being feminine.

To get on with the topic...

Gay pride is about how far the LGBTQIA community has come, it's celebrating that we have survived all of this hate, discrimination and bigotry.
What people may not realize, is that if you aren't heterosexual, the world has a problem with you. Even though you were born the way you are, people hate you, they judge you, and try to change you.
People who are LGBTQIA are hated on by others for being different, abused, discriminated, attacked and even MURDERED for being who they are.

• You can get fired FROM YOUR JOB in some countries, or states just for being gay, transgendered... etc...
• You can be denied rights such as adoption, marriage... So you can't adopt a child even though you would be a suitable person to raise a child, and you can't marry the person you love.
• Some parents kick their children out of their house for being gay. (Meanwhile a parent is supposed to love their child unconditionally, not hate on them because of their beliefs, and/or ideals.)
• There are plenty of LGBTQIA people who have been MURDERED for being themselves.  (Look up "Matthew Shepard" on Bing, Google, Yahoo or whatever search engine the kids are using these days, to see one of the most well known hate crimes in history.)

As LGBTQIA people, we have to deal with a whole lot of hate, and intolerance. We're barely even acknowledged in the media, and in the real world (Wanna guess how many times people thought I was straight? Too many to count!)
We don't really exist in the world, because it's always about heterosexuals, and gender norms.
What gay pride is about, is about celebrating who we are as LGBTQIA people, and showing the world that we DO EXIST, and that we will fight until we are all equal! We're not hurting anyone, so why even have an issue with us in the first place? Why not mind your own business, and worry about yourself for once!

The minute straight people are getting attacked, intolerance, discrimination etc.. that is when we could have straight pride day. But the fact of the matter is, everyone accepts straight people, they aren't being abused by the world, and are accepted by society, so there is no need for a straight pride day. Just be lucky you don't have to worry about getting fired for being straight, or flat out attacked for your flaming heterosexuality!

Gay pride is like father's day or mother's day, we get a special day (or month) to celebrate how far we come. Every other day IS STRAIGHT PRIDE DAY.

I do however think that gay pride can get over the top, and we wouldn't need it in the first place if it was accepted from the start. (Which it was at some point.. if you do research, there are plenty of lgbtqia people in history. It was only until 100 years ago that people started having a problem with it, mainly when Christianity got more popular.)

Here are some other things in the media that talk about why straight pride is not a thing.

Here's the biggest irony here, straight people complaining about pride, are the exact reason why we needed pride in the first place!! If straight people left lgbt people alone and didn't harass them for being different, than we wouldn't need a pride in the first place. Quite frankly, Straight people brought this upon themselves for being hateful.

  1. I think that 'straight pride' is needed more in Hollywood because in Hollywood if your gay your more popular. (At least it's how it comes off to me.. lol.)
